How to Do the National Shrimp Festival Without Fighting the Beach Traffic
The National Shrimp Festival is October 8 through 11, 2026 on the public beach in Gulf Shores, it's free to get in, and close to a quarter million people will come through over four days. That last number is the whole reason this guide exists.
The festival is one of the best weekends of the year on the Alabama coast, and the traffic is the worst.
Here's how our guests at Wolf Bay Landing do it without sitting on Highway 59 for an hour.
When is the National Shrimp Festival 2026?
Hours are 10am to 10pm Thursday through Saturday and 10am to 5pm Sunday.
It always lands on the second weekend in October, which is also the prettiest week of the year down here: highs in the upper 70s, water still warm, humidity finally gone.
Where is the Shrimp Festival and does it cost anything?
It's on the public beach at 101 Gulf Shores Parkway, where Highway 59 dead-ends into East Beach Boulevard.
You pay for what you eat, what you buy from the artists, and parking.

Eat shrimp, mostly, and then walk it off through a few hundred booths.

The Food is the Point
Every year somebody does something with shrimp that shouldn't work and does. Go hungry. Bring cash for the smaller booths, though most take cards now.
What is the best time to go to the Shrimp Festival?
Thursday is the locals' day: the same food, the same artists, a fraction of the crowd, and you can park.
Friday morning is second best.
Saturday afternoon is the peak and the one window we tell guests to skip unless they love a crowd.
If you want the music The headliners play Friday and Saturday nights. Get there by 4pm, eat, shop, and stay put for the show rather than trying to arrive at 7.
Where do you park for the Shrimp Festival?
In the official lots and shuttle lots posted at myshrimpfest.com, and you should plan on walking or riding a shuttle for the last stretch. Lots close to the beach fill by mid-morning on Friday and Saturday. Some private lots along Beach Boulevard charge, and the free lots are farther out with shuttle service to the gate.
Bring Bikes
The festival runs a bike valet and there's a bike path along the beach road, so you can park a mile out and roll in past the line of cars.
Use a Rideshare
Leave the car at home and take a rideshare from Foley, which on Thursday and Sunday morning is cheap and painless.
Where should you stay for the Shrimp Festival?
Beachfront condos in Gulf Shores sell out months ahead for this weekend, and the ones left are at peak-season prices with festival traffic outside the window.

Take the Beach Express home too, since 59 northbound is just as bad at 6pm as it was southbound at 10am.
